The Spark - Oil on Panel
The Spark is a 24×30” oil on a cradled wood panel.
This painting came to be after an always inspiring trip to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. During this particular trip I was drawn to a 15th century painting titled ‘Madonna of Humility’ by Italian master Giovanni di Paolo. The Spark is an homage to that piece, borrowing elements of color, composition and subject from the masterwork.
The original painting by di Paolo was almost certainly a commission for a church. It makes me chuckle to imagine what the reaction may have been if Giovanni had presented my rendition of the Madonna to the 15th century church.
